If I were still a student at the College of Wooster (GO SCOTS!), you'd find me wearing a red down coat in the winter. This ensemble would be topped off with one of my hats: either my striped green hat which reaches down to my waist, or my gray hat from Target, or the cute patchwork style hat from Baker's. The rest of the year...well, I am my own fashion guru. I do my own thing. Sort of.

Anyway, if you have not read some of the other pages, I will be in Munich, Germany for the academic year 2001-2001 studying the educational and social support for the oral deaf. I plan to interview a multitude of individuals with hearing loss, parents, educators, and professionals about this topic. I'm very excited about this!

My major field of study is -- or was -- communication sciences and disorders. Since most people give me really blank looks when I say that, CSD really is speech-language pathology and audiology. I hate the speech-language pathology part, and I love the audiology part. So the latter is what I plan to pursue at the University of Akron upon my arrival in the States next year. My minor was German Language and Literature. You could say that I fell into the department by chance and never tried to get out. It's wonderful!

Okay. What else? I'm hearing impaired. Well, really, I'm deaf, but I don't like to call myself "deaf" because I can hear. I realize that the term, "hearing impaired" is not politically correct, but that is what I go by. No one knows why I was born with a profound hearing loss, but with my parents' determination and strength, they worked with me, using the auditory-verbal approach (AV), which differs from oralism. See, AV stresses listening over visually-based cues such as signing, cueing, or lipreading, so I am rather reliant on my hearing. I'll put up better explanations of AV and other deafness related issues on this site.

Now the fun stuff.

I like to read. I read nearly everything: children's books, mysteries, sci-fi, fantasy, cookbooks....yes, I love cookbooks. I like to cook too, and what I like even more is eating!

TV, movies, music. I am a victim of pop culture, but lately, I watch very few TV shows (and you'd probably laugh at my selections: Star Trek: Voyager, Twice in a Lifetime, Trading Spaces, The Christopher Lowell Show, and Mysterious Ways. I used to be way cooler than this (but I've always been a fan of Star Trek: Voyager.) I am also one of those people who adores art, does art work sometimes, and drools over other people's artwork.

That's me in a nutshell. Of course, I have more interests and other things in my life, but I don't want to bore you!
